Scapa U837 - Securing Your Demanding Job
For applications where high initial and ultimate adhesion is required, Scapa has introduced U837, an acrylic transfer adhesive that provides strong bonds to a wide variety of substrates, including LSE plastics such as untreated polyolefin.
With excellent chemical, environmental, UV, and humidity resistance, this product is ideal for nameplates, faceplates, foam gasketing, sound attenuation and the application of decorative parts.
U837 is a 75 micron thick acrylic adhesive transfer tape (adhesive group MS1-LSE) which has high peel values. After 10 minutes dwell we measure a peel adhesion of 30N/25mm on stainless steel. When we do the same measurement on untreated Polyethylene we get to just over 10N/25mm. If you consider that a “good” bond to stainless steel evolves around 8N/25mm, 10N on PE makes this product offers excellent adhesion.
Difficult Applications:
U837 has been used successfully to offer customers a solution to applications which in the past have proved very difficult to manage.
PE foam used in sound attenuation is one of those applications, as it can be very difficult to adhere to. In the manufacturing of sound attenuation mufflers U837 is used to mount the different layers within the muffler together. Its also used in the final fixing just underneath a steel roof, which can prove to be another harsh environment.
U837 is also used in the manufacture of bullet proof vests. These can include a range of different materials, like a rough, aramid woven structure (e.g. Kevlar), PET and PE foam in different layers, which are bonded together successfully to protect soldiers in life threatening situations.
With an even thicker version (125 microns) of the same adhesive we also managed to bond a special polishing cloth to a very rough abrasion paper belt.
Product Benefits:
- Very high initial and ultimate adhesion
- Good anchorage to a variety of foams
- Extremely high tack, quick stick and peel strength
- Excellent UV, humidity and water resistance
- Service temperature: -40°C to 95°C continuous (125°C in peak)
